The story of King Solomon asking for wisdom is found in 1 Kings 3:5-15 and 2 Chronicles 1:7-13. The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and told Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted. Solomon could have asked for wealth, long life, and the death of his enemies. Instead, Solomon asked for wisdom. The Lord was pleased with this request and gave him great wisdom, as well as great wealth and honor.

What is wisdom?
Wisdom is more than just knowing facts and information. Wisdom is making a good, right decision based on what God says. It is knowing the right thing to do and doing it. Solomon became famous as a wise king, and people traveled from far away to ask him questions and seek advice. Solomon is remembered as one of the wisest people who ever lived.
Wisdom Mobile Craft FOR OLDER KIDS
Where does wisdom come from? Wisdom comes from the Lord, and we can gain wisdom by praying, reading God’s Word, and obeying what God says. Solomon knew the importance of wisdom, and we can help kids understand that wisdom matters in their lives, too.
A hanging mobile is a fun, hands-on way to help kids remember what it can look like to grow in wisdom. The printable mobile from Solomon Asks for Wisdom for Older Kids focuses on three simple ideas: pray, read, and obey. Kids can color and personalize the pieces before turning them into a mobile they can hang at home or in the classroom as a reminder to keep seeking God’s wisdom. Solomon was a king, and kings wear crowns! A crown craft is a simple, fun way to bring Solomon's story to life for little learners while reminding them that Solomon chose to ask God for wisdom. For an easy printable option, check out the Solomon Asks for Wisdom Preschool Bible Lesson.
The printable craft includes a crown with the phrase “God Gives Wisdom: King Solomon Asks for Wisdom.” Kids can decorate their crowns with crayons, markers, stickers, glitter, or other craft supplies. Add string to each side so they can wear their finished crowns.
At the end of your lesson, send kids home wearing their King Solomon crowns! It’s a fun reminder of the Bible story and gives them an easy way to tell their families what they learned about Solomon and his wise request.

More Crowns: Here are a few more cute crown crafts:
Wise or Foolish Discussion: Discuss scenarios with kids (make them up or ask for examples) and have them determine whether the actions were wise or foolish. For example, tell the kids, “I didn’t want to clean the bathrooms anymore, so I haven’t cleaned the bathrooms in about 2 months.” Although this is a silly example, it will get kids talking about choices. Then transition to more serious examples, like the friends we hang out with, the shows we watch, and the books we read.
Wise or Foolish Game: This game could pair nicely with the discussion described above. Mark two sides of the room with “Wise” and “Foolish”. Read out a scenario. If the scenario describes something wise, kids will run to the “wise” wall. If the scenario describes something foolish, they will run to the “foolish” side.
Praying Hands: We can pray and ask for wisdom, too! Have kids trace their hands along the seam of the page so they can fold into prayer, just like these praying hands from First Miami Kids. Then have kids either write “I can ask God for wisdom” into the praying hands.
