Bible Lessons for Kids in Preschool Through Third Grade
Are you looking for Bible lessons for kids that are easy to teach and exciting to learn? You’ve landed in the right place. At Poet Prints Teaching, we research, design, and create engaging Bible lessons that are perfect for little learners in preschool and kindergarten, and bigger kids in first, second, and third grades. Every lesson includes clear directions, simple materials, and hands-on activities that bring Bible stories and foundational truths to life.
These lessons are created to make Bible teaching joyful and stress-free. They work well in Sunday School with new volunteers and in classrooms with experienced educators who need something easy to prep. Children engage with scripture through crafts, activities, and meaningful conversations, helping them understand who Jesus is and how much he loves them.
The Process Behind Every Lesson
Each lesson begins with a careful and thoughtful study of the Bible. The process involves digging into scripture, understanding the historical context, and identifying the key truth of the passage or story. From there, the content is shaped into age-appropriate lessons that kids can understand. It takes time and intention to simplify big concepts without losing the heart of the story. The result is a lesson that stays true to scripture while helping kids connect with God’s Word in meaningful and memorable ways.
full-year Bible programs
Small Steps in the Word and Exploring God’s Word are the full-year Bible programs available from Poet Prints Teaching. Both programs follow the same scope and sequence (the lesson topics and stories match up), but at slightly different levels and depths.
Small Steps in the Word is for preschool and kindergarten. These intentionally simple, 30-minute lessons include a teaching guide (with discussion questions and step-by-step instructions), a printable craft, and a take-home worksheet to help caregivers understand what you’ve learned. Most lessons also include a simple activity. They’re the perfect tool to help little learners explore the Bible in a quick and easily digestible way.
Exploring God’s Word is for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. These more robust lessons include a detailed teaching guide with biblical background information, designed to help teachers lead deeper conversations with their children. These 45-minute lessons also include an activity, a printable craft, and a take-home worksheet.
It’s easy to teach foundational Bible stories in a fun and engaging way! Each 52-week program includes age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, printable crafts, and step-by-step instructions, making them perfect for Sunday school, homeschool, and kids' ministry. Both programs are print-and-go, saving you time while providing meaningful, faith-filled lessons for your students!
Pssssst… year two is on the way! You can expect to see a second year of Bible lessons in mid-2026. Some lessons are already available.
Bible Based Character Education
Help children develop their character in a meaningful way with lessons grounded in scripture. Each set focuses on seven foundational traits, exploring their importance from a faith-based perspective. With two versions available, one for preschool/kindergarten and one for grades 1-3, each lesson set is designed for age-appropriate learning and easy teaching. These lessons enable children to grow not only in their knowledge of the Bible, but also in how they apply its truths in everyday life.
Bible-Based Character for Preschool and Kindergarten is tailored for little learners. It includes seven character themes: contentment, courage, forgiveness, honesty, kindness, perseverance, and self-control. Each character trait can be taught over a series of three 30-40 minute lessons: a lesson to define the trait and explore what the Bible says, a lesson to read a related Bible story and lead discussion and activities, and a lesson to dive deeper with crafts and a collaborative bulletin board.
Bible-Based Character for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades has been designed for older kids who are ready to dive deeper into what scripture has to say about living a life of Godly character. The lesson set includes seven units covering kindness & empathy, courage, contentment, honesty, perseverance, self-control, and forgiveness. Each 5-lesson unit follows a consistent structure, making planning easier for teachers and volunteers. Included are detailed teaching guides with class-by-class pacing, full-page watercolor posters of NIV Bible verses, Bible exploration activities, story-based learning, role-play scenario cards, journaling prompts, crafts and activities, coloring pages, and a group bulletin board display.
